Nowadays, creative people do it all. “It’s a balancing act,” says Lee Lucas. She recently created her own bracelet line called The Looksy®. She is currently producing and showing an original cartoon, she performs and writes for her own band, NeonWest, and also holds down a job waiting tables.
On Thursday December 15th, Lee’s artwork and “The Hottest New Accessory out of Hollywood” The Looksy, will be featured in the Venice Art Crawl. This monthly art walkhappens every third Thursday of the month. Lee will be showing off her accessory line and her original cartoon entitled Pat Peeve, downstairs at Hotel Erwin, 1697 Pacific Ave., from 6:00 p.m. till 10:00 p.m.
The idea for her bracelet line,… (Click here to read the rest of this great interview!)
I headed to a bar in Culver City that I must have passed hundreds of times, but never noticed, to check out the country band NeonWest. It was a small little venue, complete with regulars that all knew the bartenders’ names. I met up with lead singer (and fellow east coast native) Lee Lucas and chatted for a bit before the 6 piece band took the stage. Camera in hand, I shot the band, while they played on the small stage in the quaint bar. Lee sang…(Click here to read the rest of this great review)
Lee Lucas, a Los Angeles based singer-songwriter with country-rock band NeonWest, created the Looksy®, a leather bracelet/wristband with a mirror on it for checking your look when necessary. She sells it at shows. “I came up with the idea one night before I went on stage because I was wishing for a mirror but there was not one in sight. I couldn’t go to the ladies room, and I had to go on fast! I knew it was an amazing idea and I decided right then to create it.”

Some of the best country songs are the simplest–hummable, strummable, you just can’t get them out of your head. Take, for instance, “Highway” from Venice, California duo Neonwest. Fronted by songwriters Lee Lucas and Rick Lucas, Neonwest is the country-music winner in Mp3.com’s recent song contest in partnership with YouNow.com.
“I know there’s a sweet place waiting for me,” Lee sings on “Highway,” a catchy song marked by urgent guitar lines and a sturdy, road-tested rhythm.
In their YouNow bio they list Jason Aldean and Keith Urban as favorite artists, but also mention Bob Dylan and Paramore–and you can hear that mix of modern rock, introspective writing, dreams, ambition, and down-home twang right between the ditches of this “Highway.”
Maybe you don’t like country. The typical chorus about drinking whiskey and cheating husbands just isn’t your cup of tea. But a good show is a good show. And nobody walking out of the swinging doors after listening to Neon West play is going to disagree that what they just saw was a damn good show. Even on a lazy Sunday, when other LA bands sleep away their Saturday night hangovers and busy themselves at brunch, Neon West is rockin’ the small wooden room that is the Cinema Bar. These country folks are working harder than Dolly Parton’s first training bra, playing great country music from beginning to end. Highlights of this small set included their Top Ten song on Countryreviews.com, Famous, a classic sounding number that feels like Kenny Chesney with a twist and all shook up. Reminiscent of Sugarland with a fuller band, the rest of the set is tight and ready for radio on either the rock or country dial. Neon West often fills the stage will all sorts of ingredients including a fiddle, keyboard and at times harmonica, but tonight it’s just two guitars, a bass, drums and vocals. The rough edged lead singer Lee Lucas has a uniquely striking voice that isn’t soon forgettable. It won’t be too long until these cozy shows with close friends turn into capacity crowds of besotted Neon West fans.
Nixa Country says “NeonWest has a great shot”
“This artist has an amazing live show and high energy performance. NeonWest has a great shot at breaking away and becoming very successful with a pleasing blend of ballads, and good ole rockin’ country. The band has a talent that shines through, in every song they perform. It was a pleasure to take the stage with such talent.”
