Highway

Takin’  that exit, the story of my life
Turn around, start again, til I get it right
I know there’s a sweet place waitin’ there for me
A space that feels like home, where I don’t wanna leave.

Til that highway is gone,
I’m gonna keep traveling on
Til that highway is gone
Til that highway, highway is gone

New town find my way around people to meet
Fresh start walkin’ round roamin’ different streets
Til those rear-view colors start starin’ back at me
Bright lights and five lanes calling me to speed..

Til that highway is gone,
Im gonna keep traveling on
Til that highway is gone
Til that highway, highway is gone

Taken that exit, the story of my life
Turn around, start again, til I get it right
I know there’s a sweet place waitin’ there for me
A space that feels like home, where I don’t wanna leave

Til that highway is gone,
I’m gonna keep traveling on
Til that highway is gone
Til that highway, highway is gone

Make it Rain
Copyright Lee Lucas 2012

Verse:
Had to put my rose in an old beer bottle
Should’ve know by now you only mend if you want to
Summer days, Septembers go by really fast
If you only see them through the short end of your glass

Chorus:
Even though I’d like to make the sky open up and rain
Yell and scream at the clouds or maybe take some blame
As much as I need you to, I can’t make you change
And I can’t make it rain. I can’t make it rain.

Thought I’d take a break for awhile
Try to go back and lose some miles
Winter days, Decembers never really last
If you only keep them frozen in the past

Chorus:
Even though I’d like to make the sky open up and rain
Yell and scream at the clouds or maybe take some blame
As much as I need you to, I can’t make you change
And I can’t make it rain. I can’t make it rain.

Put my rose in an old beer bottle
Should’ve know by now

Tired a Waitin’
Copyright 2012 Lee Lucas

I know you love me, I know you love me it’s true
Been some rough times lately, Tough to get through
But I’m done pointing fingers, and I’m done feeling blue
And I’m oh so tired,
Tired a waitin’, tired a waitin’ for you

Chorus:
Gotta get on track, get on the phone
Get myself straight,so I can get home
Gotta get on home,I’m tired at waitin’
Tired a waiting for you,I’m tired a waitin’,
Tired a waitin’ for me

When we started baby, Everything was right on time
I was yours sweetly, and baby you were mine
Now it’s a little harder, cause we’ve been laggin’ behind
And I’m oh so tired, tired a waitin’,
I think I’m losin’ my mind

Repeat Chorus

I know you love me,
I know you love me it’s true
Been some rough times lately
Tough to get through
But I’m done pointing fingers
I’m done feeling blue

I’m oh so tired,
tired a waitin’,
tired a waitin’ for you

Repeat Chorus:
Gotta get on home
Gotta get on home
Gotta get on home

Started To

You said it was all or nothing and I believed you
Said you were still there, when I could not see you
But the way this looks to me, is beyond sight or belief
And I’ve started to look right through
Yes, I’ve started to look right through

Chorus
I see through your excuses
Your broken hourglass
Daylight is fading
Nighttime is always black
Your grains of sand are stone
It’s time to be movin’ on
And I’ve started to look right through
Yes, I’ve started to look right through

You said you had the dream, and I confessed to you
Said the field was green, even when it grew over you
We’ve turned to autumn leaves
Blown away in this breeze
And I’ve started to look right through
Yes I’ve started to look right through

Chorus
I see through your excuses
Your broken hourglass
Daylight is fading
Nighttime is always black
Your grains of sand are stone
It’s time to be movin’on
And I’ve started to look right through
Yes I’ve started to look right through

You said it was all or nothing and I believed you
Said you were still there, when I could not see you
We’ve turned to autumn leaves
Blown away in this breeze
And I’ve started to look right through
Yes I’ve started to look right through
Hey Hey Hey Hey
Hey Hey Hey Hey  Oh yeah, I’ve started to look right through

Famous (new version)

She’ll take over a room in a minute or two
Been all over town by the end of the night
She’s just dazzling shining like a star
With her glitter eye shadow on
In and out of your conversation
Turn around she might be gone

Always the center of attention
She’s got name dropping, best intentions
She takes the spotlight whenever she can
cause she knows….
She’s gonna be famous

She says I know I’m gonna be someone
Right now she’s living out of her suitcase
But hey, she’s got friends in L.A
She’s got friends in Texas
She tells stories about how close she came
They grow taller every time
Her hometown loves her they are in the palm of her hand
In dreamland

Always the center of attention
She’s got name dropping, best intentions
She takes the spotlight whenever she can
cause she knows….
She’s gonna be famous

She tells me about it again over a bottle of wine
Expensive and fine red wine
As she pours another glass of excuses
For the wrong choices she chooses
In case next time she loses

Always the center of attention
She’s got name dropping, best intentions
She takes the spotlight whenever she can
cause she knows….
She’s gonna be famous

Poor Man’s Army – 2nd Place Winner – American Songwriter Magazine Lyric Contest

He got here this morning
About a quarter to eight
Bidin’ his time until ten
Black coffee on his break

Been doin’ this same job
A few years
Was summer help when he started
Gotta keep this work while he can
Everything’s closing around him

For now they match the dollars
He’s saving for someday
Might as well be in a tin can
On a shelf hidden away
It’d be just as safe, it’d be just as safe

Chorus:
It’s a poor man’s army
All lined up behind lies
Shiny on the outside
And rusted inside
It’s a Poor Man’s Army
It’s a Poor Man’s Army

He signed away 4 years to pay for his college
Now he’s just killin’ time til this target is off him
Once he was going to try to be an artist
The real world took over,
and he found out just what the cost is

Right now he’s still here
Don’t know what the next day brings
Might be walkin’ on a landmine
try to think of better things
Think of better things

Chorus:
It’s a poor man’s army
All lined up behind lies
Shiny on the outside
And rusted inside
It’s a Poor Man’s Army
It’s a Poor Man’s Army

Gotta get out….
Gotta get out…..

Repeat Chorus
